Focus on Crypto-Assets: New FINMA Requirements for Asset Managers
The Swiss FINMA has clarified its requirements for the custody of crypto-assets by asset managers. The new directive mandates that crypto-assets must be held separately for each client with a regulated custodian, such as a bank or an institution under equivalent supervision. Foreign custodians are only permitted if they provide bankruptcy protection equivalent to Swiss regulations.
Asset managers with crypto strategies and investment products—especially AMCs and ETPs—must review and, if necessary, adjust their current setups. Regulatory-compliant, legally robust, and operationally reliable custody solutions have become essential.
Bank Frick, as a MiCAR-licensed and regulated bank, offers tailor-made, legally secure solutions that combine regulated custody, trading, and additional services—positioning itself as a reliable partner in light of increasing regulatory demands in Switzerland and the EEA.
