The Central District is also the country's financial heart. This is where the Tokyo Stock Exchange, founded in the year 1878, is located. The institution is pronounced shoken torihikisho in Japanese. There are considerably more stock corporations in Japan; even small firms bear the suffix kabushiki kaisha (stock corporation).
